RIP Prince

Is it significant that he was found in the elevator vs in bed vs anywhere else?

He was really so masculine that he could carry off wearing purple heels at his height of 5'2" (I think) without ever looking like a woman. I think that's why he was so attractive to women. I was just thinking this the other day. Women notice feminine things like what PP mentioned--heels, ruffles, makeup, purple, jewelry. If a man wears any one feminine thing, like guy liner or a pink shirt or a bracelet, women will take notice because it's unexpected. It takes a rare man to be able to pull off all of what Prince wore and NOT seem effeminate. His lyrics were full of sexual innuendos, and of course sex sells, but he didn't even need the image because he was so talented musically, but that's what made him so mysterious and intriguing. He was so many contradictions.

It is kind of strange, considering he wrote songs about elevators. I hope it wasn't intentional, but famous people do seem to live not as long due to the pressures of being famous.

He chose to take drugs and they killed him. Along with Whitney Houston.

Its a death of shame. Total shame.

You're an asshole. He had been in pain for years. He was not a recreational drug user.

F U! As the poster said, pain for years and due to his beliefs he would not have surgery. How do you know for sure it is an overdose, and if it were, most likely accidental, which I am sorry to say can happen to anyone with the meds they pass out and advertise and promote these days. Blame big PHARMA!

What? He was a Jehovah's Witness and so is brain surgeon Ben Carson. Where's you link that Jehovah's Witnesses say no to surgery but yes to oxycontin?

Ben Carson is a Seventh Day Adventist.

Carson is not a Jehovah's Witness.
It is entirely possible Prince didn't get his hip surgery because he might have needed blood transfusions. So he tried to get through the pain using pills. For the judgemental folks here, the JW religion is very brainwashy. I grew up in it and know what I'm talking about. People will die and let family die to avoid blood transfusions. It's beyond sad. Also, hip pain is almost intolerable. A friend needed one for years and her pain was the excruciating.

^her pain was excruciating.

+ he was sexy as hell.

I never got any feminine vibe from him. Mostly a Renaissance or 18th-century one. He rejected the prison of dark suit and tie that men have endured since the 19th century.

+1. He never struck me as feminine. Just very, very sure or his style.

I am too. I'm sadder about this than I have been about any other celebrity death.

+2. I've never been super sad about the death of a celebrity before. Just listened to Purple Rain for the first time since hearing of his death yesterday--fuck. . Such a shame--he was so talented and did so much for people even outside of music.

First poster here and still down about his passing. We've lost some musical legends the last few years but yeah none have gotten to me the way Prince's death has and I'm not sure who else could. I knew he was in my top 5, but now I see he really was my favorite artist. His was the best concert I've ever been to. I'm kicking myself for not seeing him when he was in town last year, there were only single tix left and I didn't want to go alone. Sigh

On a positive note my birthday is tomorrow and we're getting a purple cake

You do realize that the picture that is shaping up for him (prescription pills for a legitimate condition that he probably took too many of due to actual pain) is different than that of a lifelong stereotypical addict that hurts everyone around him or her, steals, etc., right? The former is a simple tragedy. The latter is a waste, but one likely borne of psychological illness or unresolved trauma.

I'm sorry for you PP. I also loved him but just seemed to think of him as a constant and that we had many more years with. I did see him years ago - 1988 - and also passed last year. Even when I started to check off artists I wanted to see before they are gone, Paul McCartney, Earth, Wind and Fire, Stevie Wonder. I saw Elton John again a few years ago too (2011?).

We are chilling at home listening to the whole catalog on the current.

You are kidding right? Because a doctor gave him those pills instead of a dealer makes them no less dangerous, no less addictive and no less death-inducing.

If it is percocet, that is a narcotic and a controlled substance. It is a dangerous drug. Don't think that just because it is by prescription, that it cannot be just as addictive as street drugs, that an addict of percocet cannot find themselves in despair and causing major damage to their relationships and life. I know all to well.

Purple Rain got re-released at AMC Hoffman for the next few days.

That man was jumping around in those heels for years. There is no telling what kind of pain he was in. I had some leg pain last summer and I swear I could see colors I was in so much pain. Love me some Prince. He was sexy as hell. I'm dying for one of his many women to write a to all.

PP here who originally challenged the bi/gay comments, and agree that he oozed masculinity. I saw him in person at a store in Minneapolis, and it was electric to be in his presence.
