| Any Oyster Middle School families who think it compares to any of the top schools discussed in this forum? I guess it's really fallen by the way side. Why do they keep that principal on? I hear she's clueless and just an old friend of Rhee's. |
| shut up troll |
| 10:19 -- do you have a chip on your shoulder or what? SHOULD Oyster-Adams be discussed as in the same league of the top schools here? If so, why? And wouldn't Oyster-Adams be relevant since Rhee herself chose it for her children, fired the principal, replaced the principal, and fled with multitudes of other families to Deal rather than remain for the expanded MS program the community fought so hard for? Does that make anyone inquiring a "troll"? |
| The families at Adams are quite happy and have created a great community. Adams is a diverse school and the Principal is doing a wonderful job of integrating the different groups. Rock on Oyster Adams. |
|
the problem is the way the question is asked. It's not an honest question asked by parent, you can just tell. same old oyster troll as ever.
I'm as interested in O-A's middle school as anyone; I have an kid who might go there next year. But the troll keeps the conversation focused on Rhee and Rhee's principal picks and thus, I get no actual info on DCUM about the school. |
| Inside information from Adams parent...math is still a major struggle in the middle school; differentiation is still not happening in any consistent qualitative way in the MS; parents continue to transfer out who have the Deal option, even mid-year, even this week (!); they offer p.e. only once a week even in grades 6 to 8; the electives/arts are fledgling, though slightly improving; there are discipline issues in MS that are very disruptive; on the positive, there has been improved and great outreach to the Spanish community. Parents are still very involved and there are still some of the best teachers around anywhere in the school at all grades, but momentum really has not kept up at MS and super satisfied lower school families now on the fence over MS are seeking signs of hope for the future, with little feedback in return. Many new teaches are first year and it shows. My child is very happy because still in elementary but we're at the Adams campus and clearly see the changes as the grades go up. |

- Many new teaches are first year and it shows -
I assume you're talking about their inexperience and not their high energy and enthusiam and high intelligence compared to veteran teachers. |
| Most of the Oyster veteran teachers are not only of "high intelligence", but they are also excellent classroom managers with great enthusiasm. I'm high energy, enthusiastic and intelligent but wouldn't be able to manage a classroom of 25 frisky kids for 10 minutes. |
What an insulting remark. You have no basis to say that veteran teachers are not of high intelligence. And there is a wealth of evidence to support the fact that veteran teachers get the best results from their students. You really owe all teachers an apology for that stupid and thoughtless post. |

It scores as high as any and all the other schools. If you are basing your tiers on something other than test scores, please share the criteria. |
| In terms of score, I think OysterAdams sshould be on that list... |
