The odd assumption you're making about Yale and Harvard grads (that we feel superior) just illustrates the point we have made. People have had really odd reactions when I have said I have gone to Yale, and this has made me AND the other people listening really uncomfortable. So I have deferred answering the question to avoid that. And no, this is not a universal reaction by all. But based on the fact that this triggers you so much, I would not expect you to be in the camp that can handle it. |
I've heard it but it is usually said by ignorant people. Almost always by those who did not go to a school nearly as highly ranked (for whatever that's worth) as Penn. It's nice way for someone to tip off their lack of education and class. Then when their little snowflake with tons of "merit" doesn't get into HYPS like they think they were entitled to, they wonder why. Because they were raised by low class, ignorant, know-it-all morons. |
| Penn alum here. I’ve found it helpful in different contexts to let folks assume Penn State. |
When you say Boston or Connecticut, you are being vague purposefully. Oh thanks for the non answer. You action suggests that only Harvard or Yale alumni would understand you. No, you are wrong even when my words should make it pretty clear. It does not bother me at all if you say Harvard or Yale. Would I be impressed. Yes. Would I automatically think what a genius you are? No. |
Who over the age of 30 is asking anyone where they went to college? I have absolutely no idea where the vast of people I've met went to school. And I couldn't image asking some 45 year old where they went to college. The question doesn't come up in adult life outside of hiring, and even then undergrad is a very minor point in someone's professional history. |
yup.....we arent the only ones, bunch of people mixed it up on FB because Purdue is pushing it as one campus....which it is one campus but popular opinion is disagreeing |
Don't feed the trolls. |
This is the best story ever! A lesson learned about college apps. Sometimes fate takes you where you’re meant to be! (Which were the Loyolas?) |
+1. Love a good psychodynamic analysis of DCUM! |
lol get over yourself!!! Nobody cares that you went to Yale, truly. Talk about projecting. |
Agree. OP, Your child is "him." Who is "they" and "these are Americans" in your statement. No wonder no one knows what school you are talking about. |
Penn Stater here. Never met someone from Penn State who referred to going to Penn. Not once. |
I agree. There are just way too many colleges with Mary, George and Washington in their names! |
It's a joke. We all know the difference. One has a big football field and the other has good cheesesteaks within walking distance. But since it absolutely makes the douchey Wharton crowd's skin call, we continue to refer to Penn as a branch campus. |
It's in Cambridge. Boston is across the river. |
