Is there any other criteria that we don't know? Can we still ask to join the program? DC is complaining about boring math class everyday.

OP here:
We finally were able to talk to school. They told me DC is good enough to join but now the school has no right to add people in. They need to check with the county if she can join. We have no choice but wait.

I still have no idea why she was not enrolled at the beginning if scores are the only criteria.

I am OP and the above is not my post. My DC was selected for the pilot and we were notified via email like other parents here.

Sorry I was not clear and maybe misleading! I mean I was OP for that piece of post not this original one. Thanks for clarifying.

Yes and they just took the best teacher from other students for it.

Not all schools are doing it. Only like 20 ES out of the 140ish.

The new principal sent out a note telling us that we will not be getting the good teacher this year for AAP Math. We have to deal with the one we had last year that did not teach ANYTHING to our children. All the parents are very MAD. Stop using videos to teach our child and learn the material. You were not good teacher last year. I hope you do beter.

Are they making any changes to the 5th grade AAP curriculum to cover the 6th grade (7H) subjects?

Not currently, no. That would be the logical thing to do, for sure, but as of now they are just teaching the 6th grade curriculum.

And the changes to 3rd and 4th advanced have actually slowed down the pacing and created new gaps. There are 5th grade standards that are no longer covered in 4th advanced and are just going to fall in the cracks. 5th advanced is going to be playing catchup trying to figure out what content was missed AND trying to get them ready for the 6th grade SOL.

The changes to 3rd and 4th advanced math seemed to suggest some kind of “everyone gets advanced content now” thing, effectively watering down/phasing out advanced math as a separate track. The 6th grade algebra push comes directly from Reid, and I don’t think she even realizes that the program was actually moving in the opposite direction.

While not ideal, RSM has an Algebra class that you could enroll your child in if you think they need more explanation or time to learn the material. AoPS has the books but the in person class might be useful.

Again, not ideal, but an option.

What is RSM? What is AoPS?

Maybe you guys shouldn't have run off your last principal?

Rumor has it all elementary schools in the Woodson pyramid opted out of offering Algebra in 6th grade.

That's an academically strong chunk of our county that wants nothing to do with this ....interesting.

Teachers drove him out, not the parents. Students and parents loved him. It’s a shame he was let go.
