YOU are the only one who cares enough about your kids to keep them safe. It's not what we want to believe, but it's the truth. If you "send your kids to school" expecting others to do YOUR job, you are a rotten parent. |
No and that's a weird take. But anything more than what that man did would be acceptable. Even a panicked look or a frenzied attempt to quieten the scene or move kids away from it is better than what we have witnessed. |
Have you heard the term in loco parentis? Because that is the standard for schools. |
So much is wrong with you. I don't even know where to start. |
No, hysteria is never helpful in an emergency. What is wrong with you. And no, it's not a "weird take." It's exactly what posters here are saying--that teachers should intervene. Maybe not all, but some. If they expect this guy to intervene, why not the single mother who is just looking for temp work after losing her job? Maybe this guy also just lost his real job and is subbing temporarily. |
I'm not the one calling other people "rotten" for not doing MY job as a parent. |
Oh so the kid who did the stabbing was the one who was on the floor getting kicked and hit by the red shit kid before someone pulled the red shirt off him. |
Yes. |
So if a drunk driver kills your kid or harms your kid, it's YOUR fault as the parent for not doing the job? What kind of standard are you making up????????? |
1) Yes, we are very desensitized to violence. Both adults and kids. Guns are everywhere, people get shot every day, and we, as a nation, yawn and move on with our lives. 2) Heroes are few and far between. In both the adult world and the kid world. Luckily, there are a few out there. But the majority of people will not intervene. Even though we think we would respond admirably, in reality, when caught in a scary situation, most of us would just be a bystander. |
As much as everyone wants to avoid a crime from happening, not everyone is willing to go through what Daniel Penny did for doing just so. We are damned if we do, damned if we don't. |
A lot of keyboard warriors....teachers are humans too. Would you jump in knowing you could die or go get the officer who has been trained on this? Maybe you'd jump in but also maybe not. This was horrible but society is a hateful messy place and you acting like a typical FCPS parent know it all help no one. |
Let me be clear. No one is saying jump in but we are saying DON'T IDLY WALK BY. Thankfully there was a coach on hand who diffused the situation. |
Ever heard of “being the adult in the room?” PP and I mentioned that I have taken control and managed chaotic scenes in schools and in my private life. I’m not one to stand by idly. If I -as a five foot nothing, menopausal woman can safely and effectively act quickly and respond, so should any other adult at West Potomac! The last thing I’d do is break up a fight/literally try to disarm someone but I sure as hell can call 911, can usher non involved students to safety, scream loud enough to summon help, etc. In FCPS there’s lots of buzz about “tabletop training” and dusty binders full of emergency plans in some schools but yesterday’s incident should be an immediate call for action and review of emergency response protocols. |
It was 2-3 students that difused the situation, not the teacher/coach. He got there after the students had already intervened. |
