New Responsive Design for DCUM

I like being able to see the date the thread was started before clicking. It helps me know where to start, how “hot” it is, and also keeps me from getting sucked into reading something someone revived that’s like a year old

The fonts look better on a desktop browser, in my case, linux/firefox. There's still strange whitespace between Replies/Views and the Last Post columns in the forum view.

I may have fixed that problem.

Yes, you did. That's much better. Thank you!

Agree with a poster comment on your web blog to make Go to original more prominent at the top or include in left menu. It’s sandwiched between two ads at bottom. Not a deal breaker since I found it. I want to embrace the new version in solidarity for your hard work here. Thanks, btw.

Wish I could post a sanitized pic of my settings page showing 🔴 with white dash in center AA Text Size. It was in the 🟢 “more settings” section and when I messed with it, it moved itself to “included settings.” Three lines to right arent activated either. Unfortunately, posting pics has been an epic fail despite following instrux.

Have a lovely day!

The "hamburger" icons are used to activate menus in the mobile version. They are not related to the zoom setting. The zoom setting on an iOS device is changed by tapping on the two "A" characters in the address bar. You can email pictures to "admin" at dc urban mom .com (one word of course).

On my phone, the font is huge. I can only see 8 rows of one column at a time. Zooming in or out —> more white space but font size doesn’t change.
Can you put the link to return to original site at the top of the page? It takes a lot of scrolling and scrolling down to get to it.

Thanks

I think that you are having a caching issue. Go to Settings -> Safari -> Advanced -> Website Data and then search for "dcurbanmom" and swipe to remove.

I just tested again on my iPhone and the text definitely resizes when you adjust the zoom (using the address bar zoom function).

A number of posters in this thread have suggested tracking which site design is getting the most usage. Obviously, I was planning to do that all along, but here are some early numbers. Based on traffic on Saturday and Sunday, the new site (which has the advantage of having the old URL) had 33,343 users which was almost 97% of the traffic. In comparison, the legacy design had 362 users. The legacy users, however, viewed twice as many pages per user.

My interpretation of the data is that casual users just use the new design because they are not invested in the site. Dedicated users are divided between the two designs. It will be interesting to see if or how these numbers change over time.

DP. The original (legacy) format is not showing emojis - just a square where the emoji should be.

Someone mentioned that earlier and I forgot about it. It looks like this was a misconfiguration on one server but was working correctly on the other. Anyway, I've fixed it thought due to caching issues it might not work for you immediately.

Great, thanks for the update. Looks like it works!

The new design is great! Works so much better on my iPhone than the old design.
