Your understanding of Ivy League admission is fundamentally wrong. Ivies are not particularly interested in "well rounded" applicants. They are looking at kids with big spikes. They are also looking at kids with hooks (URM, donor, legacy). Just being a straight A student without big spikes or hooks is not enough. If you understand this, you will be better equipped in selecting high schools for your kid(s).

You are not going to find a big spike without money. The niche sport that only a wealthy family can pursue, the founding of a not-for-profit company to serve a community, traveling abroad every year to master a foreign language, etc...

In addition, connections and money tend to help in securing an impressive internships at the high school level and attending the university's summer enrichment program for high school students.

True.

Middle class / FGLI kids can compete in math Olympia, physics bowl, etc. Those are consider big spikes as well.

This is why many top tier colleges are reinstating testing. They feel many of the standout extracurriculars favor students who can afford to fund such activities. Although pricy tutors give an advantage as well, the edge isn’t as egregious.

Testing is not a differentiator. These private high schools all have high sat scores

Brearley is really the one that is a step above.

Yeah.

Sacred Heart matriculation is 3T, 2T at most.

Chapin matriculation is 2T. Still better than Sacred Heart.

Dalton, Brearley matriculation, 1T.

Second this. Chapin has definitely slipped. A solid 2T.

In 2024, Chapin sent 33% of its students to Ivies while Dalton sent 36%. Dalton clearly sent a larger number but they have a larger class. There is clearly a difference but not as significant a difference as what is being portrayed. LOL.

You can’t look at instagram for reliable data. If you have official data, please post the link. No way Chapin is sending xx % to Ivies.

It’s the most accurate stat that’s been on this group chat quite frankly. Sure, once it’s updated!

Chapin already updated their matriculation data to include 2024 results.
https://www.chapin.edu/academics/upper-school/college-guidance/college-matriculation-list

5 year accumulation, 27% matriculated to Ivies.

But you were right, 2023 data shows it has slipped.

Totally slipping LOL. The girls schools have 60 kids.

Chapin’s 2024 data shows a 33% matriculation to Ivies. If they ever show that data on its own, I will send!

I think this is the first time seeing someone say Chapin in 1T. No way it is on the same level as Brearley.

Really? Always considered Chapin 1T. Brearley is the best of course but Chapin and Spence are considered in that 1T. What would be your criteria for 1T vs 2T?

Certain schools create instagram pages for college decisions where each kid posts a baby pic, their chosen college, and their intended major. The school write a caption with little spiel of inside jokes about that student and what the college gains as a result. I’d post the one I have access to here, but there are minors and their names, and it’s kinda screwed up to post that to a site of bloodthirsty parents. But yeah, it’s about as reliable as it gets.

Does anyone actually have any idea how these things work? Or is it just rampant, perpetual speculation from the outside?

Huh? Since the olden, olden days of UrbanBaby, Spence, Chapin, and Brearley have always all been considered TT schools. Brearley always a slight cut above the rest, but all of them have been "TT" since as long as the TT moniker has been used.

I have it for Horace Mann---they share it with parents.
