| I am looking to join but I have no idea what a good monthly fee is. I realize that gyms have the ability to negotiate deals...So what do you pay per month?? |
|
When I belonged to Fitness First I paid $33/month which was a good deal - all the classes were included as well as a few sessions of personal training.
I now belong to Sport and Health in Old Town and I pay $80/month. |
| I belong to Fitness First. I think your fee depends on which location you join, though you can use any location. at the D.C. one, I pay $38/mo, which is by far the cheapest I've found. |
| I go to Washington Sports, but I do not pay their dues. If you go to www.nationalfitnessnetwork.com, you can sign up with them and go to any of the clubs they have listed. Basically, you get a card from National Fitness Network that is recognized by certain WSCs -- you get the same privileges for less money. I think we're paying $70 through them -- memberships purchased directly through WSC are higher. |
| Results in Capitol Hill. It's expensive -- close to a 100 a month. |
| I am a WSC member. Before I became an instructor, I was billed $54/month, same rate for 3 yrs. Although, I believe Fitness First is the cheapest. ~ZM |
| $145 per person per month for sports club la in the ritz carlton on 22nd street. plus you have to pay $1200 initiation fee to join. |
| I think I pay $39 or $49 per month at Jungles in Kingstowne. |

I belong to WSC and pay $49.75/month -- it has gone up a few bucks every couple of years. Funny to see someone else on here belongs to WSC and pays a totally different rate. I joined when they opened their Silver Spring club a few years back so I think I got a lower introductory rate and it has stayed pretty low.
I find that if you can join a gym when it's just opening, you'll get much better deals. |
| $105 for the whole family at the YMCA Bethesda. Includes free babysitting, but not many classes. |
I am so getting ripped off. I pay 93.00 a month and have been a member for 5 years. They keep upping my dues and I keep paying it. |

OP here. Thanks everyone, this is really helpful. I am guessing a few of you, based on this post, will try to renegotiate a rate at your respective gyms.
Anyone a Gold's member?? I am interested in this one primarily... |
|
Another WSC member paying way too much (I think it's 93 now too- just got a letter in the mail with the new dues) ... I've been a member since 2000 too !!!
I had no idea why my rate is so much higher though I do have a membership that lets me use all of the WSC/NYSC/BSC/PSCs at any time. My husband pays a few bucks less than me ... but he never goes ... i really need to get him to cancel - such a waste. |

49.75 WSC member here. When I joined, the membership was for Silver Spring as my primary club (which was fine because I worked right there and typically used only that gym) and I was only able to use the other gyms on "off-peak" hours (although I definitely went a few times to other clubs during peak hours and no one ever said anything. But then a little while back, they sent a letter that they were changing the membership and I was now free to use all clubs at all times, which I do. However, I have no idea if that includes PSC or NYSC or BSC -- I don't travel as much anymore so it's irrelevent anyway.
My husband belongs to Gold's. I think someone asked about that. About 4-5 years back, he paid a huge initiation fee (like 500, 600, 700 -- I can't remember) and then he was locked in to a $27.99 a month rate forever. So, he now pays $27.99 a month. I remember thinking that it was a rip off back when we had to shell out all that money but I guess it has worked out OK because he stayed a member for the long haul. |
| I paid $29.99 at the Golds Gym in midtown. It was for a 2 yr membership and I could only use that club. I just switched to the WSC in Georgetown (where they have babysitting) and I pay $69.99 a month. Its more than I would like to pay but its so incredibly convenient. |
