FCPS: eCART Quarter 3 assessments - what are these results used for?

My FCPS 5th grader had to take reading and math tests this week for "the people at the top" (DC said that was the teacher's description) and the results do not count towards grades. Does anyone know what these results are used for? DC said there were things on the test that were covered back in September.

They use the ecart tests to track progress, and in the upper grades to help predict how a child will do on the SOL tests (and identify children that might need a little extra help to pass the tests).

Thanks for replying. My DC did not feel like taking the math test so just blew through it and ended up with about half the questions wrong. Not sure how great that will be to track progress.
