bug protection for a 13-mo-old?

I'm assuming I shouldn't use regular bug repellant on such delicate skin. any advice?

there are bug-repellant bracelets that you can hook around your stroller handle (or somewhere your child can't touch it) -- it doesn't contain DEET and it works pretty well for mosquitos, gnats, etc. i have one but i threw the paper container part out, so i don't know the brand. its a spiral bracelet and comes in different colors. i got mine at strosiniders.

DD turned 6 months old on Monday and we had our appointment. Oddly enough I asked her ped about bug repellant since she had gotten bitten on two different occasions. Poor lil girl had a horrible reaction. So I wanted to know since we're going on vacation next week and will be outdoors more. Ped said that using bug repellant is fine but to use the type with Deet in it, which I questioned since I thought that was bad and his response was "No that's the type you want." So today I bought the towlettes (easy to carry along in a diap bag for those just incase moments) and some spray.

Hope this helps.

we use california baby brand- if you look up on cdc (i happen to have heard an interview a few weeks ago how to prevent west nile virus) and they do recommend more than just DEET- we personally avoid deet even for us- there are some natural repellants that are just as effective without it being chemical based.

here's the link and hth

Every ped has their own take, i think. Ours on Weds told us that first choice is to use a product that has either picaridin or lemon oil of eucalyptus in it. Second choice is to use something like Family Off that has like 30% or less DEET in it. He said if we're somewhere with swarms of mosquitos, then go w/ the latter instead since it will be more effective. Anything with DEET in it needs washed off once you come inside though.
