Sleeping too much??

Is it possible for a baby to sleep too much? For the past three days, my seven and a half week old has slept from 10 pm - 4 am, wakes up to eat and play for a bit and then takes a 3 hr morning nap, awake for 1 one hr play time, and then back asleep for 3 hr nap. She went from hardly every sleeping to lots of sleeping all of a sudden. She doesn't seem sick (she does have a stuffy nose) but very alert and engaged when she isn't sleeping. The other thing about this - she refuses to sleep in crib or cosleeper (since day one) but we just got a new swing that goes from side to side (vs back and front swinging) and she just loves it -whether for sleeping or just hanging out. She is more content there then me carrying her or putting her into anything else so I have her in there a lot the past few days. Is it possible to spend too much time in it?

She's probably going through a growth spurt. I think they sleep a lot when that happens.

If she spends a lot of time sleeping in the swing, I'd make sure she spends less time in there when she is awake-- just thinking of flat head.

OP here - that would make sense as she is eating differently - a lot more often, smaller "meals" but much more often. I guess another indicator of a growth spurt. Thanks!

i was just looking at pics of my now year old son from when he was a newborn. so many pics are of him sleeping! you would think that he did nothing else. i think it's normal. don't worry!
