School Start Times - How do you get to work on time?

Anonymous
This past year had a flexible arrangement where DH and I could manage drop-offs at 8:45 (earliest to drop off) and get to work around 10am. Thinking about new work situations and don't see any before care so just trying to figure out how people get to work on time? Do you coordinate with a neighbor, etc.?

After school is not a problem - take turns with DH to pick up at 3:30 or 4:45 (with after school programs thrown in) but with so many double income families, it doesn't seem like everyone else gets to work at 10. 15 minutes earlier is all I need.....

And no, moving is not an option right now....

Before care program at the school. Most schools have them or kids get bused from a YMCA or other offsite facility that provides before and aftercare.

I just start my work hours later. I looked for jobs that had a shorter commute and allowed a 9-9:30 start time. I stay till about six. The kids are in a after school program from 4-6:30.

Otherwise, I'd use before school care. DH and I decided to only do one or the other and adjust our schedules.

Our MoCo elementary school bus comes at 8:08 am. I see some parents waiting with their kids in their work clothes and taking off a soon as the bus comes. So depending on where they work they can be at work before 9.

The before school program.

Ditto before school care. My son's bus comes at 8:30 so I can make it to work by 9, but I'm thinking of moving and one big question is What time does school start? Amazed that so many MD elementary schools seem to start at 9:30.

Yup, my kid's elementary school'd drop off is 9-9:15am. I had to change my work hours and am lucky I was able to do so. I almost wish my kids could take the bus just so that we could get out the door sooner.

Luckily, I don't have set hours, but for days I have to be in earlier, I use the before care offered at our ES.

We do before and aftercare. There are some early morning clubs also.

OP here - thanks! I will call the school and see what before-care options are available that are not listed on the school website.

There are probably programs that drop off in the morning and pick up in the afternoon in addition to what the school offers. Good luck. Good care is key to distressing your family life.

Definitely call the school. Most of the time the before or after care is a company or individual who rents space from the school to run the program. So it likely won't be on the school website (it wasn't on our mcps school website when we were there). Call the office and they can give you the number.

OP here - called up and Kids After Hours has before care. We are already enrolled in drop-in care so I am checking if it works for the morning too. Thanks!!
