ob/gyn do do bloodworks/ultrasound local monitoring for out of state IVF?

Anonymous
Does anyone have any good experience with getting an OB/GYN office to do your local monitoring before going to out of state clinic for DE IVF? I am looking for someone else to do local monitoring without having to go to Shady Grove, GIVF or Dominion.

Thanks!

We are doing DE out of state but using GW for our in town monitoring. I know that isn't what you were asking since it is still a fertility clinic and not an OB/GYN office, but I thought I would add my two cents.

I don't know if a regular OB's office would be able to do the monitoring because they don't usually have the ability to process blood tests quickly unless they are part of a larger institution.

Hi thank you very much for your post. I was thinking I can go to Quest for bloodworks and OBGYN can do ultrasounds but it does not sound like they can even do that. I guess I will have to make arrangement with a local fertility clinic to monitor me. Thanks again for your comment.

Just curious- what are the reasons for going out of state IVF?

We used Dr. Sacks at Columbia for local monitoring and bloodwork. He seems to know everyone out-of-state and was easy to work with and to coordinate with our out-of-state clinic.

Much, much better labs with better results for tougher cases.

I had no idea that was even an option. I'm guessing it is most helpful when you are a tough unique case. This is very good to know. Thanks for the information

Thank you! I spoke to Dominion and they seem to be very cooperative in handling the local monitoring for patients doing IVF out of state. You just need to have your clinic to fax them the orders and then you can call to schedule your appointments. I spoke to VCRM in Restton and they only do monitoring on Mon, Wed and Friday so that does not sound very convenient to your cycle.

Yes I've done IVF at SG for 3 years and not successful so I am going to a clinic that has success rate in the 70s and 80s. I do believe better lab and embryologist will make better embryos for higher success rates. It is stressful with the coordinating and flying but I really hope this is worth it in the end.

We cycled out of state and did initial monitoring (CD1-5) at Dominion. They were very cooperative getting results up to my RE in a timely manner.

Don't know -- DC office was convenient to my job and so I only went there.

Good luck to you!

I would not trust an OB/GYN to do monitoring. They're not set up for it, and frankly I want someone who knows what they're doing. I'd go only to an RE.

Do you feel comfortable sharing whom you're using?

Wow! How in the world could a clinic only do monitoring 3 days a week? I can't imagine anyone going to them!
