When Trump told Republicans to vote against the border bill (and also failed to build his wall while in office) what were dems supposed to do? The border bill was not a border bill. Sen Sanders, Sen Cory Booker, and a few other Democrats voted against it. It was an amnesty bill and final Hail Mary to win the election. It promised closing the border but providing amnesty and automatic citizenship to all the illegals already here (many in swing states) so they could vote in the 2024 election. Trump called the bill out for being an amnesty bill and a way to rig the election and he was right about that but even if he didn’t call Republicans, Republicans were still going to vote against it en masse and so were those handful of Democrats. The bill was not a real immigration fix
