how/where/when to find sales on cross-country flights

Anonymous
I'd like to fly to Portland or Seattle in August or this fall. Right now flights are $500, and we need to buy 3 tickets. Any tips on how to find out about airline sales?

I like to use yapta.com You can search and pick the flights you want to watch the price for. It emails you as soon as the price drops on your flights and while you don't know if the price will be even lower than say $ 413, if you feel comfortable buying, just go ahead. I have used this for sometime for both domestic and international flights. I really like it as I don't have to go to multiple websites to check prices everyday. I haven't tried but I do not think yapta monitors southwest. Good luck.

great, thank you! I check travelzoo but thought there might be something better; this looks like it. Thanks.
