mover recommendation/advice

Anonymous
Hi - We are moving from NJ to Bethesda in about two months and have never done an interstate move before. Any recommendations for movers/moving companies that will not totally scam us, we have heard all the horror stories. We don't have a lot of stuff, only about 3 rooms of furniture and the other stuff in boxes (clothes, books, kitchen stuff etc, TV etc). Any other tips for an interstate move, ways to avoid pitfalls, things you wish you had done differently? Apologies if this is not the right "board" to post on. I will also post on the "off topic" board. Thx !

Do you know about movingscam.org? Their forums are super helpful and have reviews about companies and franchises all over the country. Highly recommend.

We used this site to find a mover when we moved from NYC last year: http://www.movingscam.com/. The site name is weird, but it has tons of info on avoiding a scam. The company we used, All Star Moving and Storage, was just okay, even though they came highly recommended. Nothing broken and everything was on time, but the guys who did the move took forever to pack the truck ( they are on an hourly rate), and it wasn't until we started threatening to call their boss that they speeded things up. Also had one of the guys steal a brand new dress (with tags) from me. I got it back after it mysteriously reappeared once I called the company, and the company reimbursed me for the cost on top of returning the dress, but it left a very bad taste in my mouth. The guy who "found" it was also the guy who commented on the dress to my husband when he was packing it, which is how we knew it wasn't an accident.
