| Just signed up my 4th grade DS for Science Olympiad. We know nothing about it, thought it sounded interesting. Does anyone know about it here? Details have been vague so far. All we've been told is that there will a few teams and within the teams they'll pair the kids off to work on research. Hoping DS won't be over his head. He's bright, curious, and enjoys science, so we thought he might like it. Is it as intense as the initial email from the coordinator has made it out to be? |

| We did it a couple years ago. The time committment was about 2-4 hours a week. The issue I had was that I was expected to coach one of my dd's events...and was assigned something I knew nothing about. It was really hard to coordinate schedules with the other two kids dd was paired up with so that we could meet. I know that some schools organize it differently so this may just be the way our school did it. |

| Ad dd's school, there were 45 slots and 60 kids wanted to do it. We were not selected. |

That's crazy. I've never heard of a program like this only being open to some of the students, when there are no prequalifying criteria. Did you complain? |

There are lots of after-school programs that are first-come-first-served. |
