Henry Elementary in Arlington

Anonymous
I am hoping to get some feedback on Henry elementary. We are moving to the area this summer and DD will be starting 3rd grade. Military, so it will only be three years, don't really need to worry about which middle/high school she will feed into. We really like some apartments in the Henry school zone. Science Focus and other Arlington schools "rank" much higher than Henry, but have people had good/bad experiences with Henry? DD loves school and is average/slightly above average intelligence...not sure if she would make it into gifted programs or not. We appreciate diversity. How much "better" are the N. Arlington schools compared to S. Arlington. I'm mostly concerned about a safe environment where she is encouraged to love learning. Thanks for any input you have.

all of the schools in arlington are very good. the SOL scores are better is n arlington because they track pretty closely to the percent of low-income kids in a school, and some of the n arl schools are much less diverse than the s arl ones. in terms of quality of the facilities, teahers, principals, resources, etc. all the APS schools do very well. Henry is in a relatively nice neighborhood and the Pike is getting better all the time.

I know several people whose kids go to Patrick Henry and they're very happy with it. Good teachers, good staff, engaged parents, etc.

We live in Arlington. I know a couple of families who transferred from North Arlington elementary schools to Henry because the classes were smaller, and they felt like the teachers knew their children better. They were very happy there. The schools in Arlington are safe, and while I haven't been in all of them, I have been in about half of them and I would describe all of them as happy paces to learn. I have met the principal at Henry a number of times, and she seems fantastic and is well-regarded.
