Can you tell when someone is kissing up to you

and kicking down everyone else? It can be hard to see, especially if they are very subtle. It takes a very sensitive person to see this behavior and I think that it is important, simply because that kisser upper could end up being in charge of you and can infuse so much bad will into a group that it falls apart.

I generally assume everyone is disingenuous, especially in this town.

I think people can tell when someone is being sincere over time. that said, sometimes it's hard not to believe a compliment about yourself!

It depends. Some people are very skilled at manipulating others and it is hard to see. Others are blatant and you would have to be living under a rock to miss it.

Yes, but I tend to be a very sensitive type anyway (cry at finding out people are engaged, cry at weddings, cry when my favorite contestant wins on X Factor, etc...) I can tell if someone is not genuine because it comes across as being fake. If you hear someone talk about something that they love, it is easy to see the difference when they are not genuine about something else.

Yes, I can tell and I hate watching it play out. So pathetic.

This is probably one of the reasons why I will probably never make it to a high-level position. I am incapable of brown-nosing, kissing up, etc.
