I realize this post is silly, but is it considered wrong to peel open corn before you buy it? That would never occur to me, I always check corn by peeling it open. Of course if it is a good ear I buy it, I leave damaged ears but nobody wants those anyway.

If you can't tell good corn without husking it in the store that's your problem. Why do you think you can ruin the corn so that "nobody wants it anyway"?
