Private School Students Admitted to Level IV AAP Program

Anonymous
Hi, all. My children currently attended private schools. I understand from FCPS website that private school students can be tested and appy for admission to Level IV AAP program in the 2nd Grade. Do you have any knowledge or sense of whether my children would be given a fair chance to enter this program in 3rd grade if they are qualified? Any sense of whether there is bias against "outsider" students trying to get into the program?

Thanks so much!

Yes, assuming that your child qualified. Not all children from private schools will qualify, of course.

See the parent information packet online:

If they qualify, they will be admitted. However, deadline for 2012/2013 has already passed

You can apply in Nov for Spring enrollment or Feb for Fall enrollment. Several kids I know from private school got in, of course, they have good cogat score and school report card.

We applied to AAP from private school in Nov prior to 3rd grade. We were informed of the decision in Dec. prior to 3rd grade. Submitted test scores, report cards, and GBRS from private school. Found county staff to be very pleasant and easy to work with when completing the application process. Did not feel that there was any bias against private school kids.
