I don't know what the real name of those sneakers are, but my kids are desperate for them. They understand that they are absolutely forbidden at school. Is there some other reason that I shouldn't let them have them? I feel like I remember them getting bad press at some point! Also, if your kids have them, do them scratch up your hardwood floors???
They're soooooo 2006
|
True, true. But since my kids were barely alive then, I guess they look good now. Trust me, I wish my kids had never seen them, but somehow they spotted them, and have been relentless asking me for them ever since. Very retro.
They're dangerous
Ignore the haters, OP They are called heelies, they are found online. They start at age six.
That's my question - why are they dangerous??
Nevermind - thanks for the name. I looked it up. I see broken bones as a risk!
They're called Heely's. Make sure you get the name of a good orthopedic surgeon after you buy them.
|
I have to chime in on how dangerous they can be. Especially on a carpet. My granddaughter was wearing hers, not even wheeling on them, and she tripped in a store and fell forward into a large mirror. Her front tooth got caught on the frame of the mirror and it broke the tooth in half horizontally. She went to the dentist the following day who had to put a pin in the tooth to hold a replacement in. She just had to have the entire tooth capped after a root canal. Costs $$$$$ I wouldnt recommend them
Just make sure your child wears a helmet when they wear these sneakers.
I once saw a kid ON CRUTCHES wheeling around on these things! If you want to pay for some broken bones in the future they might be a good idea.
really. this is your concern? that they are not trendy anymore. you sound like so much fun. |
True story: while visiting the Grand Canyon a few years back, we saw a 7 year old wearing these shoes right at the edge. Could not believe it did not occur to her parents to wear different shoes that day.
Wow, so much Heely hate. They're "dangerous" if kids wear them like regular sneakers, and a lot of stores (back in 2006...) had signs up banning them. you can take the wheels out and they become really uncomfortable and unsupportive tennis shoes. If your kids want them, I'd go for it, but use them like you would a pair of roller skates. You put your Heelys on, skate around for a while for play, and then when playtime is over you go back to regular sneaks.
Where to get those pairs now. Could not locate
