What's stylish for men?

DH is fortyish and constantly laments his lack of stylish clothes. He has placed this issue in my lap and asked me to seek out cooler clothes. He wears suits to work but needs some things to wear when we go out -- something beyond the usual dark jeans. He's slim and good looking so it shouldn't be hard, but he's a bit sheepish, if you know what I mean. If you have a husband around this age who looks reasonably hip when you go out, what does he wear? Thanks!

I would like to give my DH a wardrobe makeover as well. There is nothing he detests more than shopping.

Banana Republic makes Mad Men suits, love them. When my husband loses a few pounds I am going to make him buy them all.

My DH is slim with broad shoulders and not too tall. He wears trendy jeans: Seven for All Mankind, True Religion, Hudson in straight leg or bootcut. For shirts he likes Hugo Boss as they have a slim fit that isnt so boxy. He wears them untucked. J crew had some nice casual plaid shirts this past winter. He usually can't find anything in Banana. For work he like Charles Tyrwhitt. Bloomingdales, Neiman Marcus and Saks have pretty decent stuff.

pick a sales guy who looks good at a place like Lord & Taylor and have him help DH out.

OP here. DH could wear those Mad Men suits, but he doesn't like that slim-arm thing with the high-cut armholes. Hope you have better luck with your husband. I thought of taking him to Denim Bar for some jeans, but I can't see him enjoying that. Please keep the ideas coming!
