NP, I am not a car person or a luxury goods person, but i get easily stressed driving. This is obvious to me. A smoother, safer ride. It just feels better and it really does add to the quality of life every day if you drive every day! GPS, heated seats, great sound system, screens in back for the kids, the new car smell. This is somewhere to spend the money IF it will improve your life (only you can decide) and if you can afford it.

I drive 15 miles a day. Since I spend 30 minutes a day in the car, I don't care how much better the Mercedes is than my Honda. Capiche?

Can't find the original post, but there is a big difference between an Honda and a Mercedes. I have no idea why you are bragging about having $1 million in the bank, so do plenty of other people.

I don't think PP was trying to impress anyone by saying (s)he has a million in the bank. Way to totally miss the point lol. The point is PP could buy a Mercedes, but yawn a car is such a boring thing to spend money on. I'm a 30 y/o attorney and can afford whatever car I want, but I honestly don't know anyone under 35 who even cares about luxury cars anymore. I associate expensive cars with boring stuff old rich white boomers like. Nowadays people with money buy close to transit and don't even have to drive all that much.

Also, I think it's funny how in this thread people with 200k incomes are being bashed as poor "poseurs" and in another thread people with 200k HHI are bashed for being upper middle class and told they shouldn't complain about money!

$200K is a middle class lifestyle. People aren't impressed when you try to pretend to be rich in Potomac with it. It stops being cute when you're 10.

I have a 200k HHI, but with mortgage, student loans, childcare, etc. I certainly don't feel upper middle class around here and would never pretend to be rich. I was just reading the 'if two couples work 80 hr a week' thread and posters (high powered working moms mind you) said the OP would need 2-3 nannies and a housekeeper (and gardeners, maids, handymen etc) and it still would not work out for her. So basically all the big law, doctor, banker moms agreed 1 SAHM > 5+ employees. CASE CLOSED FOR GOOD WOHMS.

Im sure the average SAHM does tons of gardening and handyman work.
No one employs a handyman.
And most WOHMs don't work those hours.
