Self nominate for award?

Is it tacky to self nominate for an award? I think I would win but am not one to brag. I Know I would answer the questions tastefully but I have to admit I'm curious what other people in this large club might submit. I'm new so I don't want to appear greedy or pushy. What do you think?

If you are likely to be the winner, that must mean you are good at whatever category it is and so someone else must know about your talent or accomplishments. Then why isn't someone else nominating you?

I'm new and haven't shared much of my background that pertains to the award. I guess I could tell someone but I think that's less genuine than nominating myself. Im just not sure if nominating myself although it's ok would be considered tacky.

I nominate myself for mother of the year on an ongoing and frequent basis. I've never won (probably because my kids drink juice), but it makes me feel good just knowing I was nominated.

i don't think it's tacky at all, if it's an application form. if you have to stand up in a crowd and nominate yourself, then maybe that's more tacky....but no one in the professional world will look out for you more than yourself. this is assuming this is a professional award and will help your career.

I'm assuming it's a professional award, in which case it is fine to nominate yourself. If we're talking about nicest lawn on the block, then it's not appropriate.

I remember being rather surprised to learn that actors nominate themselves for Emmy awards (or their flack does it), and then to learn that it's actually the norm for many professional areas.

This is something that simply isn't done and your colleagues will laugh at you and your boss will be mortified. Don't do this.

Thanks. OP here. Not so much a professional award, but a civic one. Still tacky? I'm strongly leaning towards not doing it. While I think I have a strong chance I would be embarrassed to toot my horn and it's not really in line with the other nominees.
