I am delivering at Sibley and I plan to take an intro class at the Breastfeeding Center. If a need an at-home lactation consultant, should I just contact the Breastfeeding Center, or does anyone have alternate recommendations?
How much does a lactation consultant cost? |
Not sure how much it costs to have a lactation consultant come to your house - I think Pat Shelley from the Breastfeeding Center on K St. might be around $150/hr for a home visit??? I think an hour with her at the Center is around $75-85. I think they may also pro-rate (15 min, 30 min., etc.) In my opinion, she's worth every penny.
Good luck! PS - definitely take the free into class at 2141 K b/f your baby is born. They also have other free classes (BFing the early weeks (0-4 mo) and on up). |
definitely use pat shelley at the BFC -- she does home visits and is fantasic. well worth the $$ and i think PP is correct in that she's around $150 an hour but don't recall exact amount. |
I am the OP. Re: Pat Shelley -- should I scheduled an apptment with her before the baby is born or just wait until then (i.e., does her schedule fill up)?
Many thanks for the suggestions. |
another rec for Pat Shelley. I would wait until you get home, you may not need her. If you do, however, she will make time to see you. I called on a Tuesday with pretty significant problems and she came to my house the next morning at 7:00 am. I can't tell you how much she helped me. I had seen multiple other consultants, including others at the Breastfeeding center, and no one but her did much good. |
