Is the Mercedes E-Class station wagon the official car of District moms?

Jeez. Everyone here seems to have them. With either a St Pats or Lowell sticker on the back. It reminds me of my hometown where everyone drives a Tahoe. It must be the official car for women in Kent or the Palisades. I feel a bit out of place with my older Lexus suv.

It's an ugly car and I'm sure the purpose is to show status.

Other than its cost, The E-Class wagon seems like a fairly practical vehicle. There are certainly worse choices out there.

How can a Lexus SUV owner sneer at a Mercedes station wagon? A pox on both your houses!

After you wrote this I thought I would look up the mileage. I was surprised to find that the average mpg is 18-22 depending on the model. A Tahoe gets 17. I would have thought a wagon would do much better than an SUV.

My kids are at St Pats and more moms drive the big GL Mercedes SUV than the wagon. I think the wagon is less flashy and the moms with those are maybe a bit more down-to-earth.

I am really not into cars at all except for having space to drive my kids and their friends where they need to go so I have an SUV but its fairly utilitarian. I have to admit, although I really dont judge people by their cars, there is something about the Range Rover that just strikes me wrong everyone time I see one (new ones at least). It just screams "I have money and want you to know" more than any other "parent" car on the road. I just dont get it. I have friends who have them and have ridden in lots of them of the years and they dont give any of the extras that other cars do (extra safe, extra space/seats, extra dependable, etc...), they tend to be lemons, and the only reason I ever hear people choose them is because "they like the way they look."

Our friend just bought a range rover. Single but dating. We mock him endlessly about it screaming I have money...

The Range Rover is the "DC Mom car, IMO" at least that's what I see all over the place. I like the Mercedes Wagon, especially if it is worn-in, not screaming shiny new....it's a classy, practical, comfortable ride. I am not a car snob, but once you drive a Mercedes - evetything else feels like a go-kart!

I saw a Range Rover with a "Mann" sticker. Says alot about the people that send their kids to Mann.

The standard E-Class wagon gets 22 combined, or 19 city and 27 highway. The AMG wagon, which gets 18 combined, is a high performance model that is probably uncommon (I've never seen one at least) and not a car that I would call practical. But, 22 combined is not too shabby for a 3700 pound car with all wheel drive. I think the wagon would have considerable advantages for drivability and parking in NW DC over a Tahoe (which I would not consider a very practical vehicle for the city).
