Does your child have to be enrolled in local public school to apply for elementary magnet programs?

Or can you apply from a private school so long as you are a Montgomery resident? MCPS website seems to indicate your child must be enrolled in local school but I've heard conflicting things. Ran a search here but didn't find anything. Thanks!

You have to be a MoCo resident - no need to be enrolled in a public school.

Have several friends whose children got accepted to magnets straight from private; residency is all that is required.

Yes, as stated before you can apply from private. It's much more of a hassle. We had to take time off from work to attend the testing session and had to download forms that weren't posted on the website until late in the process and get them filled out and submitted.

The testing session I took my daughter to only had 30-40 kids or so; I don't think there are a lot that come in from private.

So what you are saying is that you can be in private school and still apply?
