You're going just based on the number of standards? I don't think that's a good measure. (Not to mention that, in the anecdotal experience of my child at school, there's actually plenty of time for lots of other things.) And in any case, it's a completely separate issue from requiring a canned script. |
I don't understand. Because of the Common Core standards, it is no longer possible to have a block center? Or: Because of the Common Core standards, the students no longer work together to build elaborate cities? What am I missing? |
Do you have the concept of time in a day? |
So the Common Core kindergarten standards, which you can find here: http://www.corestandards.org/Math/Content/K/introduction/ http://www.corestandards.org/ELA-Literacy/RL/K/ mean that there is no time in the day for a block center? Wow. How much time were the kids spending at the block center? |
Have you been in a K class? |
Yes, of course. What is your point? |
You obviously have not taught K with the current standards. |
Have you? The kindergarten schedule at my child's school (about 20% FARMS and 15% ESOL) shows music, art, science, social studies, centers, and PE, as well as a literacy block and a math block. |
All in the same day? Impressive. And Doubtful. |
Of course not all in the same day. It's the weekly schedule. What's your point? |
You get my point. You just don't like it. |
No, I really don't understand your point. Unless your point is that, as result of the Common Core standards, the only things there are time for in the kindergarten day are math and literacy? In that case, you're right -- I don't like your point, because it is clearly not true. |
Sorry FAIL again. You can thank LOCAL CONTROL for that part of it. Common Core does not dictate, mandate or require canned scripts. |
LOL! People are "unhinged" for pointing out that it is indeed possible to teach the typical kid who can count to 10 to be able to get to 100 in less than a year? Aren't you just a wee bit OVER THE TOP with your characterizations here? It's really hurting your credibility. |
^ Sheesh, hasn't the supposed K teacher heard of things like math manipulatives? You already said something about having the kids playing with blocks half the day, never thought about gamifying it and thinking manipulatives? You'd have those kids counting to 100 in 2 weeks. |
