Chimney guy came out yesterday and told us the four fireplace inserts installed in our house when it was built in the early 1980s aren't up to code and need to be retrofitted with a pipe. It would be costly.
He also said new inserts cost $3,000 to $5,000, so there's some value in selling these things on Craigslist (and using the brick fireplaces as originally intended -- just get a screen. We never liked the inserts to begin with, so it's hard to imagine there's actually a market for them. Wondering if anyone has any experience with this? We'd like to get rid of them. I saw one guy on Craigslist advertising that he would remove them for free but it implies he doesn't actually pay for the inserts themselves. Based on what the chimney sweep guy said, seems like I should be able to get a grand or so for the four. |
