FCPS world languages in middle school

Anonymous
My 5th grader has an interest in learning either Latin or German, but her FCPS elementary school has no language program. She is also in band and chorus in school, and would probably take those two courses as electives in middle school. Are there after-school foreign language options at middle school like the FLEX program in some FCPS elementary schools? Or do we need to plan for enrichment activities/camps for her to try Latin or German instead?

Try looking for outside programs. At our MS there's the standard language classes, but at 6th (in our school) if you take chorus and band that would eat up all of your elective space. You'd only get the two electives. Each school is a little different in their course offerings and when (for languages) so call your MS directly and see what they offer. Latin in our MS is Latin/French, and is only one semester as an Intro course in 6th grade, then Level 1 course in 7th or 8th grade. But again you'd have to have the elective slots open.
