Happened to us with DC last year at Lowell. HHI of 60k total. We had to decline offer. Fortunately we were offered about 90% in Aid from GDS and accepted. DC is now in the Lower School there.

Forgive my ignorance I'm new to all this and the only financial aid I ever came across in my life was for college and grad school. Is financial aid for elementary and high school at these private schools more of a grant, in other words money you don't pay back, or is it a loan? Does everyone apply for FA like college or is there typically a unofficial HHI level that sets the mark?

It's a grant. Basically a tuition reduction.

Well, geez, her hhi is $60K. Take home must be $50 or $45. Not a hell left over to pay the $33K tuition. Just glad to know that GDS has the money and they're giving to a worthy family.
