| If you didn't have to worry about schools, or a yard (unless you wanted one for your own purposes) or a family-friendly neighborhood, where would you choose to live? Would your lifestyle be very different from what you have now? Me, I'd want to live in a condo (although DH would want a SFH for the yard) in the city, as opposed to our "family friendly" suburb. If an unlimited budget, I think I could make do with the Georgetown waterfront; on a more realistic budget, I'd go for Adams Morgan/Dupont. |

For us, it is more about the budget than the child. If I had unlimited budget, I'd live in Old Town Alexandria or possibly Capitol Hill. I love the look and feel of rowhouses.
Out of the area, I would live in Savannah on one of those squares in a heartbeat. |
| Bolivia |
| Luxury rental. |
| If in DC, exactly where we do - downtown in a condo. But, we would probably be taking a couple years to do peace corps or something. |
|
I'd move back to Baltimore and renovate a rowhouse somewhere like Butcher's Hill or Patterson Park. Hell I wish I could convince DH to move to a nice place in Towson or Ellicott City.
If I could live anywhere I'd want a houseboat in Key West. Or maybe one of the islands outside of the Hurricane Belt. |
| In downtown DC, maybe Georgetown or Kalorama? A condo or rowhouse. Alas, we still have two in high school so those plans will have to wait. |
| Paris |
| Whitianga, New Zealand. |
| New Orleans - in the Garden District. Probably on the parade route! I love that city, but crap schools. |
An apartment/condo/loft in downtown, assuming we're talking about DC (since I'd still need a job). If money were no object, the same, but it in: Berlin, Paris, Nice, Capetown, Geneva...hhmm, hard to say.
|
| OP here - yeah, I meant the DC area. If location AND budget were no object, I would find the question impossible to answer! I would probably own pied a terres in several domestic and international locations as well a couple of beach houses. And then of course I would need a private jet to go between them all. I get tired just thinking about it ... |
| Penn Quarter or Georgetown. |
| Upper West Side NYC, with a place in the country within a 2-hour drive for weekend getaways. |
| I second New Zealand, Queenstown. In the US, Boulder, Colorado. In DC, Georgetown. |
