Arizona Sheriff Paul Babeu denied accusations by an ex-boyfriend, but admitted that he is gay (http://tpmmuckraker.talkingpointsmemo.com/2012/02/arizona_sheriff_paul_babeu_angrily_denies_ex-boyfr.php?ref=fpnewsfeed). He spoke of earlier attempts to out him and said “It’s almost as if there’s a relief today, to be able to not be threatened.”
I don't think the word "almost" belongs there. Although he has resigned as co-chair of the Arizona Romney campaign, he is continuing his campaign for Congress. And for Romney, who claimed in one of the debates that he was speaking out for gay rights "Right now," it's a chance to prove it by refusing the resignation. This guy could be the right-wing version of Ellen DeGeneres in helping people see gays as normal human beings. |
Is he the anti-Mexican racist? |
He's tough on border enforcement, and appeared with McCain on the subject. Whether your description fits, I don't know. You could be thinking of him, or maybe Joe Arpaio. |
He's about to learn an important lesson. No matter how many values he shares with the Republican party, there is no room for him in it. |
Have you ever heard of the Log Cabin Republicans? |
When Dick Cheney lobbies for gay marriage, I think it may reflect a change in how gays are viewed by the GOP. Even as Republicans fight gay marriage nowadays, many of them point out that they are not anti-gay, and even support civil unions. This is a vast change from a few decades ago, and sooner or later there will be a tipping point where gays are completely accepted. I think it's quite possible that Babeu could be the tipper. If not, I think he at least brings it closer. |
Oh yes, I am quite familiar with them. I admire their self-sacrificiing behavior. Now let's see that list of Log Cabin Republicans currently in office. The only ones I know of were outed involuntarily or came out of the closet after retirement. |
It's always fun to see a destructive hypocrit self-destruct. |
Yeah, PP, you must be thinking of Joe Arpaio, who has been at the forefront of Jan Brewer's Arizona new immigration policy. |
