Potty Training Boot Camp

Anonymous
So I'm taking advantage of the 3 day weekend to do potty training boot camp. I've been talking it up with my son over the past week, and tonight I put the "last" diaper on him at bedtime. I told him tomorrow that we won't wear any diapers or any pants. He freaked out and said he needs to wear pants. He is very much a routine-driven kid and I'm a little worried that the plan to go bottomless tomorrow isn't going to work out. Anyone been there, or have any tips? Thanks!

I did the potty training boot camp, but we didn't go without pants. My son does not like to go around without clothes on, so that is a no go. I just put him in training underpants and regular pants that he could pull up and down by himself.

BTW, I also rolled up the living room rug before starting.

We did it for our daughter and it worked great. However, we took her to the store to choose her own underware and that was what she wore in the house with pants for 3 days straight. Many accidents the first day, but then less and less. If your kid is ready, the method can be great. Oh - we motivated with an m&m after each peepee in the potty.

Can I ask how old your kids were when you did this? Not sure if mine is ready yet.

Just put underwear on him and be prepared to toss it out if there is a poop accident.

DD was 18 months when we started. It was 3 weeks ago. We still wear slip on diapers because she's too tiny for training pants but she doesn't go in her diapers when she's awake anymore.

We did "boot camp" when DS was 18 months so he wasn't as routine-oriented as he is now (2.5 years). I would try to honor his preference about not going pants-less and just be prepared for lots of laundry. Maybe the wet pants will help him recognize accidents more quickly. Though it's funny because my kid would be naked all the time if I let him!

OMG, you do not have to waste perfectly good pants just because poop touched the fabric!

Thanks everyone. So far 2 poops in the underwear (neither were bad enough that the undies need to be thrown out. I've definitely cleaned worse off of clothes in the newborn stage). DH convinced him to go bottomless, and then he peed on the floor -- after many successful pees in the potty. I hope this gets better. I think he genuinely doesn't care that he is having accidents. They don't seem to phase him.
