Does anyone have a 3 year old in any type of Martial Arts program? If so how is it working out and where do you do it?

My daughter was in a Tae Kwan Do program for about 3 months when she was three before we moved. It was nice - taught a bit of discipline, but was fun.

We started our son at 3 in the Ninja Tots program at Flying Kick in Bethesda and we all have loved it so much that he is still there years later. Classes are small with "Masters" who really know how to talk with kids. They also run a fabulous camp in the summer.

For those of you who started your 3 year olds successfully... How did you know your kids were interested, or would be interested? I ask because I've wanted to get my (almost) 4 year old into tae kwon do... but we've tried several other "classes" (gymnastics, soccer) that were various forms of disaster. Soccer he hated. I had kind of thought that maybe he was just too young for any sports classes... but maybe they're just not the "right" ones.

Did you go and watch a class and ask if it looked like fun? Did you just sign them up and hope for the best?

I'd like for him to find a nice activity that he likes, but I feel like I pushed him into gymnastics/soccer, and learned a good lesson...

(and, if any of you have found a good program in NOVA, I'd love the name)
