Anonymous wrote:Please create a story for Matthew, John (Jake), Quinn and Grace! You have a gift, my friend.

Thank you. Here goes:

Your family surname is Irish but not like Sullivan or Kelly, but a little more obscure Irish like Power, Burns or Ward. You live in Kensington, MD and your kids all go/went to Holy Redeemer. Your husband went to HR, too and nothing beats the kinship he has with his classmates from third grade and their winning CYO baseball team in seventh grade. You, mom, grew up in Virginia and met your husband at Boston College and there is still a playful rivalry of which state is better (Maryland or Virginia), but you capitulated and moved to Maryland because you spent so much time there anyway it just made sense.
The oldest, Matthew is named after his dad (who goes by Matt). Matthew's friends call him Matt or just by his last name. He is at Gonzaga now and has followed dad footsteps in that regard, but only played football freshman year and has now turned to rugby. Jake is next and he is a swimmer. It just comes to him so naturally and he loves the individual aspect of the sport though he has many great friends on the swim team. He secretly wants to go to Prep because he swims there everyday and it is awesome, but 1) no way, this family bleeds purple. and 2) cant afford that outrageous tuition. But, there is a cousin who is a sophomore at Prep and swims, and loves the school.
Quinn is a boy Quinn. You know an equal number of girl Quinns and boy Quinns and only about half are named Quinn after a family member, most just liked the name. Your BOY Quinn was named after your husbands mother's maiden name. Quinn is in 5th grade and plays a travel sport. He loves to wear shorts all year long, so thank goodness HR has a uniform to keep him warm in the winter. Quinn really only likes cereal, chicken nuggets and chocolate chip cookies.
Finally a girl...Grace!!! But with three brothers she is a bit of a tomboy. Which you have no qualms about. She learned to ride a bike at three and spends countless hours on the trampoline in your back yard. She is a smart kid who is wise beyond her years but still hates the sound of thunder.
Family dog is named Murphy and always gets his own photo on family Christmas card.
Some odd facts about each:
Matthew was featured in the newspaper when he was younger in the Kidspost section
Jake's best friend is an only child
Quinn has been to the emergency room 5 times; all relatively minor, but once was while on family vacation.
Grace is left handed, but can do sports righty.

OMG. Having kids that went to HR I can say that you NAILED IT. I'm dying over here.
You have a gift. Seriously.

Kinda sad that these kids didn't actually go to HR but you sure do know the type.

Your DH is as white as they come; Wonder Bread is jealous. But having grown up in Central America and moved to the US for college, you knew that you wanted to share your culture with your kids. Thank GOD DH agreed to settle on those names; otherwise, you'd have little Emilee and Kaylinn running around. Barf.

Bianca came first. She's a feisty little girl and is 2 years older than Gabriella. She loves to play sports, hates anything that isn't mac and cheese, and generally took after her daddy. She can make grown men cry with her knowledge of football, and if they DARE get a player's stats wrong, she'll smack them over the head with her Barbie doll.

Gabriella is the shyer one. This prompts Bianca to ask "Mommy, what's wrong with her?" This all reverses when Gabriella sits with her tias and drops some bomb chisme about what the girls at Saturday language and culture school were up to. She loves going back to visit your relatives abroad and her Spanish is superb, which makes Biance jealous.

You all live in N. Arlington, but may move because of high school overcrowding. You don't know where, though. DH cooks and works for a government contractor; you're a SAHM who left a high-powered, nonprofit legal career to be with her girls. You hope to get back into the groove when they both are in ES.

O-M-FRICKING-G!!!! I know you!!!

Well, no you personally, but you in general. You went to my college, full of nerdy, quirky but very kind people. Star Trek, Dr. Who, LOTR and all that jazz are your LIFE. You're the girl who didn't care about fashion or make up, was very studious, and "didn't come to college to get her MRS degree." But girlfriend, you had a ring by spring and those popular cheerleader types were jealous. No, you didn't marry a member of their crew; you and DH met at a Star Wars theme party. Once he took of his Chewbacca mask, you KNOW he was the one. 4 years into his electrical engineering Ph.D and your work for a science magazine, little Iona popped out.

Iona is the cheerleader you never understood, but you love her all the same. She didn't like sitting through Dr. Who reruns and ripped apart the HP books you bought her. Whatever. She's in middle school and and is a thriving queen bee. Snap snap, you go, as she would say. She wants to go to boarding school to escape her "weird AF" family and Snapchat all she pleases. Give that girl her iPhone or give her death.

Rowan is tired of being stuck between the two girls. He's a kindred spirit to you and DH. He loves video games and exploring nature by himself. He has a solid group of friends at at Field (thanks, financial aid!).

Maeve is the youngest by a lot and is happy to be included in the older kids' activities. She loves drawing and painting, and is thriving at Mt. Daniel. She wants to be a pediatrician and help people. You're proud of her for wanting to help others.

You live in FCC. You like the granola vibe, but fear it's being lost in favor of consumerism and developers' interests. Bernie was your man in 2016; Elizabeth Warren 2020. You don't make a lot of money doing science writing, but it's all about the small things in life anyways. DH works at a tech firm in Dulles, but is a SAH dad and has fun with the kids. This is a marriage for the long haul.

You’re too good, lol. I wouldn’t consider myself Doctor Who level nerdy but DH and I did initially bond over our love for Star Wars He IS an engineer, and I don’t work for a science magazine but was a science major. The names are Irish, inspired by my Irish immigrant grandparents.

Thanks! I'm glad you like it. Ha, I never would have guessed those were old Irish names. That's a neat backstory.

I think there are multiple contributors ( seems to be slightly different writing styles); so that is probably the reason. I like reading many different contributors...once you post a name try and post a story about someone less name...so fun!
