Why won't Reid schedule the President's budget for a vote?

They have enough votes. The House and GOP will just beat them up in the general for failing to even vote on a budget.

It needs to go to committee first. I assume Reid has referred it to the Senate Budget Committee. It is up to the committee to act on it and eventually send it to the floor.

Here is one explanation: http://tpmdc.talkingpointsmemo.com/2012/02/the-truth-behind-the-gops-1000-days-without-a-budget-canard.php?ref=fpblg
The only purpose it would serve would be to give the GOP material to attack Dems.

You must be new to this process.

the budget is nothing more than a political document.

GOP would love to take it up for a vote - it is highly unlikely ANY member would vote on it. In fact, McConnell did force last year's FY2012 budget to a vote where not a single person voted for it.

it's a joke. I frankly don't see the point in wasting the time and effort reviewing it anymore.

Its packed with things that will be used against them in the next election if they vote against. It's exactly the same reason they caved on the payroll tax. They will avoid voting on this if they can find a way.
