Right at 38 weeks, no complications at all.

You're going to find a (small) difference in those babies who came spontaneously at 38 weeks, and those who were taken (induced or c/s) at 38 weeks. While babies who come naturally at that gestation do the best; overall any baby born at 38 weeks will fare quite well, but in some cases they have a little bit of trouble transitioning to life on the outside. Breathing issues, breastfeeding trouble or temperature regulation are the most common complications, though again, overall you should expect that a 38-weeker will be okay. Is there something in particular that you are concerned about? If you have any choice at all in the matter, it is best to push the birth to closer to 39 weeks. But if it is inevitable, don't waste your energy worrying. Everything is going to be okay.

38 weeks with a c-section due to breech baby. He needed breathing support immediately after birth but has had no issues whatsoever since then. 20 months now.

38 weeks, 6 days. Everything was absolutely fine, but I did end up with a c-section.

it probably depends if the baby comes on his/her own or if the birth day is decided by you/the doctor.

this is one resource on issues that may arise...

What a load of hogwash. 37 weeks is full gestational age.

Yeah, I guess the March of Dimes and all that research backing them up is wrong.

It is recommended that induction occurs at 39 weeks, any later and it becomes riskier. The sweet spot for safety is 37 to 39 weeks

Pretty much.

It's fine---38 weeks is full term. But the PP is right---if you are doing a voluntary C-section, you should wait till 39 weeks. (Our hospital would not do them earlier than that unless it was for a medical reason that necessitated an earlier delivery.)
