We're considering both these public schools as we look at where to settle our family. I've heard Rachel Carson is great but over-enrolled and Stone Mill is also great with lower enrollment. Would love any thoughts parents have on one or both of these schools.
Thanks! |
My child is zoned for Stone Mill, but we chose a small private instead. It's a good school by most measures, but it wasn't the environment I wanted for my son. Lots and lots of work sheets from kindergarten on up. Lots of busy homework in the early years that doesn't seem relevant. And of course teaching to the test, which you'll find in every MoCo school.
It has a highly competitive, high achieving culture. It's definitely not overcrowded. If I were the student, I would have been fine there. I learn well in almost any setting. I didn't like it for my active, hands-on son. |
My son is in K at Rachel Carson. Yes, Carson is overcrowded, but it still has the feeling of a small school.
The Principal and Vice Principal are wonderful and very involved with the children. It was just named a Blue Ribbon School. We are very happy there. My son is learning and happy. The school spirit is great and the PTA is very involved. |
