Has anyone started a business because they can't find a job?

Been job searching for almost a year, pretty depressed and worn out from it. Thinking about starting my own business part-time because I am tired of not doing anything with my education (master's degree) and experience.

I'm in the social services field. I'm trying to think of businesses I could start that relate to my degree/experience. Any thoughts?

Are you the previous poster who just received your Master's in a new field?

It depends on what your profession is - would you mind telling us?

Starting a business in a field where you can't find a job seems illogical. It suggests the field is pretty saturated.

Can you start a business that leverages your knowledge of the field? For example, providing a service professionals in the field need?

Can you consult?

I did. 9 years ago. Technically I could find a job, just not paying what I felt I was worth (I was looking to personally gross $80K). I borrowed the start up capital on a credit card and kept my expenses dirt low. I also had my spouse to provide financial support to cover our household expenses.

I was extremely fortunate almost immediately. Actually I went into a high profit field with extremely low overhead.

i made $750K or so last year.
