Braxton Hicks

Anonymous
What do they feel like? I'm 29 weeks and if I walk around too much (esp in the heat), it feels like my entire stomach balls up and gets hard. Not painful, just weird and slightly uncomfortable - more unnerving than anything. I don't seem to notice them unless I think I over-do activity. Does this sound right to you? Thanks.

Sounds exactly like Braxton Hicks. If you get worried, then take a break, sit or lie down and drink a tall cool glass of water.

Braxton Hicks for sure. As PP mentioned, sitting or lying down will help immensely as will a lot of water. I had them a lot with my first pregnancy and noticed it more on days that I wasn't resting much. Hard to do at times, but you need to put your feet up and relax

Drink LOTS of water! You need more than you think, what with all the extra blood volume in your body, and this awful DC heat. Stay cool, take it easy, and did I mention LOTS of water? (Just got told all of this myself by my OBs, so passing it on.)

I at at 34 weeks and get these all the time but they aren't too uncomfortable. Should I be trying to drink lots of water/lie down to make them go away? Is it something I should be trying to avoid or minimize?

Make sure you're not in preterm labor if there is any cramping that accompanies the tightening. With my 2nd DD I kept thinking I was having BHs and I talked to my Dr. at 32 wks and they checked me and I was already partially effaced and dialated and then went into preterm labor that week. Just don't dismiss them if there are any other labor signs accompanying them!!!
