Russet potatoes - how long can I use 'em?

Anonymous
I rarely buy or cook potatoes, so forgive me if this is really elementary stuff.

I bought potatoes in December, and there they are still in the vegetable bin of our fridge. I was going to throw them out, but husband says that people used to store potatoes for an entire winter and eat them much longer than 2 months after being picked.

Is this right? I'm making burgers tonight and thought I'd fry some potatoes to go along if these are still edible.

Thanks in advance!

Unless they are green, mushy or REALLY sprouting they are perfectly fine. They do get stored over winter.

No problem. Enjoy dinner!

Yes I agree with PP, if they are very green or mushy throw em out. If they are starting to sprout "eyes" I just trim that part away.

But don't store potatoes in the fridge ever!!! You are supposed to keep them in a dark cool place!!!
