Aside from Downton Abbey, what's your favorite period drama to watch?
I love the pride & prejudice with Colin firth (not the hideous version with kiera knightly where the director never read the book). I recently watched little Dorit and far from the maddening crowd. Thank god for bbc! What are your favorites? |
Howard's End, The Remains of the Day, Sense and Sensibility |
The Colin Firth Pride & Prejudice is my favorite. My other favorites are: North & South (http://www.amazon.com/North-South-Daniela-Denby-Ashe/dp/B000AYEL6U/) and Sense and Sensibility (this version. I love it: http://www.amazon.com/Sense-Sensibility-Miss-Austen-Regrets/dp/B0012OVCE6/). |
Bleak House. Incredible. |
I love the Colin Firth version of P&P as well. He is the only Mr. Darcy for me. Bleak House was bleeping amazing; ITA with PP. I also LOVE Room with a View (the Helena Bonham Carter/Julian Sands version). Also Persuasion with Sally Hawkins. The recent Jane Eyre (Masterpiece Theatre) was good as well.
Really, I love all of it... you can probably tell. |
Period drama? When someone cuts me off and I threaten to kill them. Or eating my house and home out of each and every inch of chocolate. period drama? Oh wait, never mind...... |
Aside from Downton and P&P, The Forsyte Saga with Damien Lewis. I read the book and the series is almost word for word. |
I love Anne of Green Gables, also Pride and Prejudice (Colin, of course!), Remains of the Day, Gosford Park.
Mr Bates from Downton plays a lead role in Larkrise to Candleford. That show has a lighter spirit, and takes place about one generation before WWI. Enjoyable. But Anne of Green Gables (the mini series) is my all-time fav. |
I'm watching Lark Rise to Candleford right now. I also watched The Forsyte Saga and tried North and South but couldn't get into it. I liked Cranford and Wives and Daughters, and next I want to watch Bleak House. |
Thought this was about mortifying period accidents... |
Brideshead Revisted--the original PBS series (not the movie) with Jeremy Irons. So addictive. . . . |
Revisited-- |
I Claudius |
can't beat the BBC Pride and Prejudice.
Reading a book that reminds me of Austen - Jonathan Straqnge and Mr. Norrell. Austen meets magic. Love it! |
Ha ha! I should have said "costume" drama! |
