Baby is growing and it hurts!

Anonymous
Ok, two weird pains I wanted to see if other moms-to-be were experiencing.

One, I swear I can feel the baby on my cervix. Maybe it's just my bladder, but there are times when I feel a little tickle and it feels like my cervix. Is this normal?

Two, when I lay down to go to sleep (diligently on my side...) pretty much all night I am tossing and turning from pain in my upper rib cage (same level as my breasts, but under my arm). Seems to be a pressure point that hurts due to the 16 extra pounds I am carrying in my belly and boobs? Is this normal and is there anything I can do about it besides take Tylenol??

Thanks!

1. probably your bladder although pelvic pain is totally normal.

2. I highly recommend yoga. I went religiously with #1 and feel so much better than I do now (at 32 weeks and too busy running around this summer to make time for it). I totally notice that my back hurts more and I get more charly horses.

Good luck!

Re: the pain under your arms--are you sure your bras fit correctly? There are a lot of nodes and glands over there that could be getting pinched by an ill-fitting bra that you are just noticing when you lay down.

You don't say how far along you are, but when the baby started to move regularly, i definitely felt him kick me in the bladder area. That could be it for you too.

OP here. I'm 24 weeks.

Yes, it's probably the bladder.

As far as my rib cage...I do go to yoga ( try to go once a week) and I'm pretty active -- swimming/light tennis/walking/gym 3 to 4 times a week.

It's a very weird pain...just sort of feels like I've got too much weight on that one spot.

Maybe a pregnancy pillow would help?

I'm short and my first pregnancy bent my sternum (cartilage down the center of the rib cage) so that it was sticking straight out. If you're carrying high it seems totally reasonable to me that you would feel presure in your rib cage area.

You might want to have your doctor do an internal ultrasound to check your cervix just in case. I was feeling excessive pressure on my cervix and it turns out that I have an incompetent cervix and they immediately put me on bed rest.
