Cholestasis of Pregnancy?

Anonymous
Anyone out there with the somewhat rare condition called Cholestasis of Pregnancy, which causes severe itching due to improper bile secretion and can increase the risk of stillbirth? I likely have it (liver enzymes are well above 200) and am wondering when others with the condition ended up delivering. I'd like to make it to 37 weeks, but I think they might induce me at 36. I'm at 33 weeks now. Also, if anyone has experience with inducing around that time, and whether they ended up having a cesarean, that would be helpful too. Thanks, everyone.

I do not have this, but became familiar with the condition when I had problems with severe itching all over my body during the early part of my 2nd tri. (In my case it turned out to be a hyper-sensitivity I was having to products and fragrances that I had always used previously.... it eventually got better)

However, I remember searching for answers before figuring it all out.... I believe there is a website called "itchymoms" or something like that which was really informative. I can understand your desire for information as I was shocked to learn about the risk of stillborn from this website. From what I briefly learned it sounds like it is very common to induce early.... try checking the site I mentioned as I think they may have support boards as well.

Good luck!

The website is http://www.itchymoms.com/. It's quite informative.

My OB suspected cholestasis based on severe itching in my feet (particularly toes) which started around 33/34 weeks. I ended up not having it, but he told me he'd put me on medication and induce at 37 weeks. The alternative is too scary. My dr was so concerned about me possibly having it that he had me run to the L&D and get tested the same day that I called his office asking about the itching.

This doesn't really answer your questions, but in any case good luck! Hope all turns out well for you and the baby.
