Did anyone receive Takoma MS magnet accepances/rejections today?

Yes, acceptances to both (!) for DC.
I think they mail rejections a day or two after they mail acceptances. |

| Slightly off-topic, but given we may be considering this in a couple of years, what are the approximate acceptance rates? |

TPMS sent an email to current magnet parents a few weeks ago asking for food for teachers who were going into a marathon session reviewing applications.
The email mentioned they had 700 applicants this year for 100 slots. I don't know if the number got revised once all the envelopes were all opened, but it seems to be something like that. |

I think that's right (and the number may even be higher), but as I understand it, they eliminate right off the bat the kids with test scores below a certain cutoff, and then work from the remaining pool (whatever that is). I imagine this becomes a very hard task since there are likely more than 100 kids in the remaining pool with scores sufficiently high - but there just aren't enough spots. Consequently many qualified kids are rejected. My child was admitted and I am grateful for that, but I feel sad for those kids out there who could succeed in the program but who for whatever reason were rejected. |
