Kathleen Parker goes off the rails

I usually like Kathleen Parker despite being a liberal, but she really twisted herself into a pretzel with this one.

My favorite is the third graf, which is laugh-out-loud hilarious.

incoherent...

Actually thought it was extremely thoughtful..and I agree with her. Not sorry..sick of the left pressuring people to be left. If you don't like Komen ..give elsewhere..that's fine. Awful that they gave in.

I think it is an excellent piece. The attack on the Catholic Church and other faith based institutions through the Affordable Care Act is deplorable and is in direct violation of the separation between church and state.

Sorry, OP, but it was a good piece.

People across the ideological spectrum agree that the politically powerful are overstepping their constitutional boundaries. Planned Parenthood is a corporate bully. The HHS requirements are blatantly unconstitutional. Parker was right this time.

I don't thin kit's incoherent but I think it leaves out a lot.

SGK has also discontinued its support of programs that use embryonic stem cells and some of its top officials support extremely conservative positions on issues of women's health. To me, THEY are politicizing their work, not the other way around.

As for the Catholic institutions -- these are hospitals, for example, who serve and employ not just other Catholics but everyone. That makes them employers, not religious institutions, and as such they should conform to the requirements of the law. I do not believe the law covers actual churches, who are not being required to conform to the requirements to provide contraception.

If the Church doesn't want to operate by secular rules, it shouldn't operate secular institutions.

Just remember that pro-choice is really pro-abortion because God forbid you actually make a different choice!

She did a very nice job on this piece.

Your last sentence doesn't even make sense. Employers, of all sectors, are free to offer any level of insurance they wish based on any number of factors. In a free society that is what happens. If you don't like your employers insurance offering you are free to get a different job, buy supplemental insurance, pay out of pocket, etc. no one is forcing anyone into a job here. Their CHOICE to work for a Cstholic employer.

"We cannot--we will not--comply with this unjust law."

For the full text of the Catholic bishops' letter to the faithful, which was read at masses across the country, see below:

http://www.businessinsider.com/here-is-the-anti-obama-administration-letter-that-was-read-to-almost-every-catholic-sitting-in-church-today-2012-1

General ignorance about the HHS mandate does not undermine the truth about it--merely obscures it for a time. This will not end well for the Obama administration. When Dionne, Gerson, Parker, the editorial staff of the Post, AND the bishops all agree, you know the administration has screwed up big time.

Katheen Parker said:

Don’t like it? Don’t run in Komen’s fundraising races. Don’t buy a pink blender. Give directly to Planned Parenthood. In fact, both organizations have enjoyed a surge in donations since news of the break erupted. Note to fundraisers: Create an enemy, enjoy a bonanza.

And that is EXACTLY what people told Komen they would do. So what's her complaint? Komen made a decision that they had every right to do, and lots and lots of people called, emailed, wrote, and said they would refuse to buy another pink whatever.

That's the way the system works. People who want to make abortion illegal tried very hard to pressure Komen to do what they did; as part of a calculated plan to make it harder and harder for women to find legal abortions. The plan backfired bigtime. That happens, too.

Isn't the issue coverage for birth control? Don't you think it's a little screwed up to make woman who work for a catholic employer now have to pay out of pocket for birth control? Remember now more than 95%-98% of all woman ( including catholic) use it. I would consider that an important medication to not only prevent an unwanted pregnancy that may lead to an abortion(!!!) but also to treat some conditions (painful debilitation mentruation, acne etc) You are telling me it's cool to expect women to now pay instead of a copay, the full price of medication?

What a bunch of bullshit.

It's because God said (in the bible) that using birth control is sinful. God wants women to be submissive to men, and if they can control their fertility, it gives them the opportunity to have careers, power, and money. The Church is trying to save you from yourself by taking away your birth control. Just shut up and listen.

There's a simple enough solution: the catholic church should only employ catholics, who won't ask for this medicine to be prescribed.

Kathleen Parker is a self-professed Republican. She has described herself as "right of center."

Again, what a bunch of bullshit.

I just don't get how women buy into this and think it's acceptable. I don't care what you do, but for your Church to want to dictate what other women should be doing with their fertility is beyond ridiculous.
