When he recites it, he sounds like he's telling us his plans for the weekend. When he sings it, he sounds like a 10-year old coerced into singing solo for his great aunt at a family party. The more substance and emotion he tries to deliver, the more obvious his glibness and insincerity become.
While I'm glad for that, in this case I'd like to be able to hear "American the Beautiful" sometime in the future and possibly enjoy it, maybe even with a teensy bit of national pride, instead of hearing it as a reminder of the grotesqueness of our leaders. I'm cynical enough already. |

He should start a band with John Ashcroft, and Gingrich playing the drums on his paunch. They could call themselves "The Despicables", to use G's favorite word.
It might be good for Gingrich's image too. He's used the word "defPIcable" so many times that all he reminds me of is Daffy Duck. |
