Can someone fill me in on how this meeting went?

Did anyone attend this meeting? I'd love to hear what they had to say about the upcoming gifted program. Thanks!

I'm curious whether this will be a city-wide program. As in will my OOB child have a way to circumvent the lottery. My child is definitely gifted, but I'm really turned off my the crazy homework at Latin and Basis.

Current Hardy parent here - for those who missed the January open house, there will be another one on February 27.

To clarify the previous poster's comment, the program is open to Hardy students, there is not a separate admission process. So if your OOB child gets into Hardy via the lottery, they will have the opportunity to participate in the program (assuming they show the ability to do so).

A general comment for DCUM parents with a 5th grader - I know there is a lot of excitement about BASIS, and continuing excitement about Latin. I urge you all not to forget about or ignore Hardy - the Principal controversy of the last several years is behind us, Dr. Stefanus and her team are working very well together with the faculty and parents, the atmosphere at Hardy is very good, and the gifted and talented program at Hardy is a great and exciting addition. I'd suggest you add Hardy to your list of middle schools for consideration.

So glad to hear things are going well at Hardy! My dd was there when Pope was the principal and I watched the whole debacle from afar. It was a good school before the whole mess and I've been wondering how things are going now. I'm so glad to hear that you all are doing well.

I am a parent at Hardy. I do not see things as better. The teachers are not behind the principal at all.

Why aren't they behind the principal?

It is night and day better at Hardy this year. There are no protests, behavior is much better, the principal is fulltime, the winter concert was terrific, the boys football team rocked, the band remains a jewel, an accelereated math program has been implemented, and they will be piloting the G&T program next year. Because of the screw up last year, there are OOB slots avaialble at Hardy. I'd suggest taking a look, and remember it feeds to Wilson, which this year shows 0 OOB openings.

I am also a Hardy parent, and am in complete agreement with the previous poster - Hardy is having an excellent year this year, and I would only anticipate things getting better next year.
